Meet Agne: Semi-Permanent Make-up, Lashes and Facials at 65Beauty

Agne is our beautician and semi-permanent make-up artist. She trained in beauty straight from school and has worked in the industry for more than 15 years. She does facials, classic and volume lashes, and semi-permanent brows, lips and eyeliner. She also speaks Lithuanian, and ends her interview with a message to patients in Lithuanian, with English subtitles.

How beauty has changed

When Agne started, the look was heavy: lots of make-up on the face. Now, she says, it is all about looking more natural, and that shapes everything she does.

Why semi-permanent make-up

Agne was always good at art, and semi-permanent make-up let her bring something new to her clients that other technicians weren't offering. It was expensive to learn at the time, but it was very popular, and it still is.

Semi-permanent make-up or a tattoo?

The difference is depth. A tattoo sits deep in the skin and lasts a very long time, or forever. Semi-permanent make-up is placed much more superficially, in the upper layers of the skin, which is why it gradually fades and needs topping up.

A typical appointment, step by step

  1. Talk first. You discuss the procedure before anything is booked.
  2. Patch test. Always, at least 24 to 48 hours before, to check for any reaction.
  3. On the day. You talk through colours and how long the procedure takes, and fill in the consultation and health and safety forms.
  4. Design. Agne draws the shape, measures, and checks it with you in the mirror. If you don't like it, she doesn't do it.
  5. Treatment. Numbing cream goes on, and the procedure starts only once you're happy with the design.

Why a patch test every time

A common question is "I've had it done before, why do I need a patch test?" Agne's answer: different artists use different pigments and techniques, and allergies can develop over the years. People change, so the patch test comes first, every time.

Designing brows for your face

Everybody's face is different, and often one side is different from the other. Agne measures carefully and always aims for a natural result. She prefers to work on a fresh face rather than correcting another technician's work, although corrections are possible after a consultation.

Choosing an artist

  • Check the clinic.
  • Check the technician: diplomas and certificates, that they are qualified and insured.
  • Check for a council licence where one is needed.
  • You can always ask your technician to show you.

Classic or volume lashes, tint and wax or semi-permanent?

Classic lashes place one extension on each natural lash for a very natural look. Volume (sometimes called Russian volume) places several fine lashes on each one, for a fuller, more dramatic result. And if you are choosing between a brow tint and wax or semi-permanent brows: tint and wax needs repeating every few weeks, while semi-permanent brows last much longer and can even be drawn as fine, hair-like strokes.

Kalbame lietuviškai

If Lithuanian is your first language, Agne is happy to talk you through any treatment in Lithuanian.

Results vary from person to person. Every treatment starts with a consultation with a registered clinician.
