Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular treatments we offer, but they don't work for everyone. A small number of people don't respond, whatever the brand or the dose. Kerry is one of them. On a recent TikTok Live from our clinic on Kings Road, Brentwood, Paul, our Clinical Director, showed a different way to soften her fine lines using tiny amounts of filler.
Real treatment and Paul's real voice, filmed live with Kerry's consent. Results vary.
Why anti-wrinkle doesn't work for some people
Most people respond well to anti-wrinkle injections, but a small proportion find they have little or no effect, even after trying different products or doses. If that sounds like you, it is worth knowing there are other options for softening lines.
Fine-line filler: tiny amounts, placed superficially
Rather than relaxing the muscle, fine-line filler works by placing very small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler just under the skin, along the line itself. Placed this superficially, it softens the crease without adding volume or changing the shape of the face. In the video you can see Paul working in small passes along each line.
A finer needle for more control
Paul decants the filler into a very fine needle. That reduces trauma to the skin and helps limit bruising, and it gives much more control over how little product goes in. With fine lines, less really is more.
No numbing cream needed
Many fillers contain their own local anaesthetic. Paul spreads a tiny amount ahead of each pass, so the area is comfortable as he works along the line. Kerry didn't need numbing cream.
What to ask your clinic
Whatever treatment you have, a few questions are always worth asking:
- Is the filler a medical-grade product, and does it come in a glass syringe?
- Will the batch stickers be recorded in your aftercare notes?
- Is the person treating you adequately qualified for this technique?
An advanced technique
Superficial fine-line filler is an advanced technique and should only be done by adequately qualified practitioners. Getting the depth right matters, and so does knowing when it isn't the right option.
Frequently asked questions
Will fine-line filler make my face look fuller?
It shouldn't. The amounts are tiny and placed superficially, so the aim is softer lines, not added volume.
Does it hurt?
Most people find it comfortable, helped by the anaesthetic in the filler and a fine needle. Everyone's experience is different.
Is it a replacement for anti-wrinkle injections?
Not for everyone. If anti-wrinkle works for you, it may still be the better option. We will help you decide at your consultation.
Are you a clinic wanting to learn this?
We teach it in our advanced filler masterclasses. Products and needles are available to approved clinics at 65medical.co.uk.
