Aesthetic treatments are more popular than ever, and so are the stories of treatments that went wrong. Paul, our Clinical Director, was asked what he would want his own family to check before any treatment, at any clinic. These are his four questions.
Paul appears in real video filmed at our clinic; his voice in this video is AI-generated and lip-synced, made with his consent. The clinic footage is real and filmed with consent.
1. Is the clinic CQC-registered?
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Many aesthetic treatments do not legally require CQC registration, but a CQC-registered clinic has chosen to meet the standards that come with it. You can search the CQC website for any clinic's registration. 65Beauty is CQC-registered.
2. Who is actually treating you, and how are they trained?
Ask who will carry out your treatment, what their background is and what training they hold for that specific procedure. A good clinic will be happy to tell you, and to tell you who is responsible for clinical oversight.
3. Do they give you a proper consultation, and are they happy to say no?
A proper consultation covers your medical history, medications, goals and what is realistic. It should never feel like a sales pitch. One of the best signs of a responsible clinic is that it is willing to tell you a treatment is not right for you, because the right answer is not always yes.
4. What happens if you need them afterwards?
Ask what aftercare you will get, who you contact if something does not feel right, and how quickly they respond. Make sure you leave with written aftercare advice and a way to reach the clinic.
Ask the awkward questions
You are not being difficult by asking. Good clinics welcome these questions, and the answers will tell you a lot about how you will be looked after.
Common questions
Is CQC registration the same as a rating?
No. Registration means a provider is registered to carry out regulated activities. A rating is given after an inspection. Always check what a clinic actually holds.
Should I be worried about cheap deals?
Price alone does not tell you about safety, but very low prices can be a reason to ask the four questions above even more carefully.
