Lip Filler Without the Trout Pout: Paul Explains Our Approach in Brentwood

"I want fuller lips, but I don't want a trout pout." It is the number one thing people tell us when they ask about lip filler. In this article Paul, our Clinical Director, explains how we plan lip filler at 65Beauty so the result still looks like you, and what happens at your appointment.

Paul appears in real video filmed at our clinic; his voice in this video is AI-generated and lip-synced, made with his consent. The treatment footage is real and filmed with consent.

Why lips end up looking overdone

Overdone lips rarely come from one treatment. They tend to come from too much product at once, filler placed without looking at the rest of the face, or top-up after top-up without a pause to reassess. Lips sit between the nose, cheeks and chin, so a lip that is out of proportion with those features can look heavy even when the amount used is modest.

Our approach: the whole face, then the lips

Every lip appointment starts with a proper consultation. We talk through your medical history and what you would like to change, and we look at your face as a whole: the balance between your upper and lower lip, the shape of your cupid's bow, and how your lips move when you talk and smile.

If lip filler is not right for you, or a different approach would suit you better, we will tell you. That honesty is part of the treatment.

What happens at your appointment

  1. Consultation. Medical history, goals, and a frank conversation about what is realistic.
  2. Numbing. A numbing cream is applied around the lips first to make the treatment more comfortable.
  3. Building gently. Small amounts are placed a little at a time, checking the shape as we go.
  4. Moulding. Your practitioner gently shapes the area so everything settles evenly.
  5. Aftercare. You leave with clear advice and know who to contact if you have any questions.

What to expect afterwards

Some swelling, tenderness or small bruises are common for the first few days, and lips often look fuller on day one than they will once they settle. That is why we suggest judging the result after the swelling has gone down rather than in the first 48 hours. Results vary from person to person.

Who it may suit

Lip filler may be considered by adults who would like to add a little volume, define the lip border or improve balance between the upper and lower lip. It is not suitable for everyone, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with some medical conditions, which is why we always check your medical history first.

Common questions

Will people be able to tell?

The aim is lips that look like a fresher version of yours. Building gently means you can always add a little more later; it is much harder to take away.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it very manageable. The numbing cream helps, and the treatment itself is quick.

Who carries out the treatment?

Lip filler at 65Beauty is carried out by our trained clinical team in a nurse-led, CQC-registered clinic.
