Some people notice that their lips have become bigger over the years, yet somehow look less defined. The border is softer, the area above the lip looks puffy, and the shape they loved has gone. In this video Paul, our Clinical Director, explains one of the most common reasons, and how we put it right.
Paul appears in real video filmed at our clinic; his voice in this video is AI-generated and lip-synced, made with his consent. The treatment footage is real and filmed with consent.
What is migrated filler?
Filler is meant to stay where it is placed. Sometimes, particularly after several treatments over the years, some of it can drift above the natural lip line. The result is a "shelf" or puffiness above the lip and a blurred border.
Why adding more makes it worse
It is tempting to top up to get the shape back. But adding more product on top of filler that has already moved can increase the puffiness and make the lip look even less defined.
Step one: a proper assessment
We start by looking closely at your lips, at rest and moving, and talking about your treatment history. We need to understand what has been placed, when and where, before we suggest anything.
Step two: gently dissolving what has drifted
Where filler has moved, it can usually be dissolved. This is a medical procedure, so it is only carried out after a consultation, with a full discussion of what to expect and any risks.
Step three: let everything settle
After dissolving, we give the tissues time to settle. This pause matters. It lets us see your natural lip again, and plan properly.
Step four: rebuild carefully
Only then do we rebuild the shape, carefully and with a small amount. Less really is more. The goal is a fresher, more defined lip that still looks like yours.
Frequently asked questions
Will my lips look smaller after dissolving?
For a short time they may look smaller than you are used to. That is normal, and it is why we wait before rebuilding.
Does dissolving hurt?
There can be some stinging and swelling. We explain everything and look after you throughout.
How long do I wait before rebuilding?
We will advise you at your consultation, as it varies from person to person.
Can you fix filler done elsewhere?
Yes. Many of the people we see for this were treated at other clinics. We will always be honest about what is possible.
How to tell if your filler has moved
Signs can include a soft "shelf" above the top lip, a lip border that looks blurred rather than crisp, or lips that look bigger in photos but less like your own shape. Sometimes it is only noticeable when you smile or talk. If you are unsure, a consultation is the simplest way to find out.
Why who treats you matters
Lip treatments and corrections both need a good understanding of anatomy. At 65Beauty, a CQC-registered, nurse-led clinic, we plan every step carefully, explain the risks and alternatives, and never rush. Our aim is lips that suit your face, not a trend.
Looking after your lips afterwards
We give you clear written aftercare and are always on hand if you have questions. Most people are back to normal life the same day, with some swelling for the first few days.
If your lips don't look the way they used to, come and talk to us at 39 Kings Road, Brentwood.
