PRP Aftercare for Face and Hair: Do's and Don'ts

Just had PRP? PRP uses your own plasma to support your skin or scalp, so a little redness is a sign it is working. Here is how to look after it.

In the video, Sam, one of our practitioners, talks you through it. Everything she covers is written out below so you can come back to it.

Your aftercare, step by step

First 24 hours

Redness, warmth, tenderness and small bruises are expected. Don't touch the area, apply make-up or wash it for 6 hours (face) or 24 hours (scalp). Avoid alcohol, exercise, saunas and sunbeds. Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin and anti-inflammatory creams for 3 days unless a doctor has told you to take them, as they can reduce the effect; paracetamol is fine.

Days 2 to 3

Cleanse gently with lukewarm water. Use a bland moisturiser and SPF 30 or higher on your face. For the scalp, wash with a mild shampoo and no hair dye, styling heat or tight hairstyles for 72 hours.

Week 1

Skip retinol, acids, exfoliants and facials for a week. Mild flaking is normal.

Results

PRP works gradually. Changes build over several weeks and are strongest after a full course, so keep your sessions on schedule.
