A blood test can feel like a simple appointment, but a little preparation helps you get far more from it. In this article we share three questions worth asking before you book any blood test, explain why each one matters, and outline how to speak to our team in Brentwood about current appointment options.
The footage in this video illustrates sample collection. It does not show a test result or a specific test panel.
Blood tests are widely used to look at different aspects of health, and there are many different tests available. Because of that, two appointments that both look like "a blood test" can be quite different in what they measure and what happens afterwards. Asking a few clear questions at the start helps you understand what you are booking, what you will receive and how the information will be used.
At 65Beauty, a nurse-led, CQC-registered clinic at 39 Kings Road, Brentwood, we encourage everyone to ask these questions before they book.
Question one: what is being tested?
This is the most important question. A blood test is not one single check. Different tests look at different things, and the right choice depends on your reason for testing, your health history and any advice you have already been given.
When you speak to us, it helps to explain why you are interested in a blood test. Our team can then talk you through the current appointment options and what each one involves. If a test is not suitable for what you are hoping to find out, we will say so. A blood test is not right for everyone or every question, and suitability is part of the conversation.
Question two: who will explain the findings?
A set of numbers on its own can be confusing, and some results need context to be understood properly. Before you book, ask who will go through the findings with you and how that will happen.
Knowing this in advance means you are not left trying to interpret results alone. It also gives you a clear point of contact if you have questions once your findings are available.
Question three: what happens next?
The third question looks beyond the appointment itself. Ask what happens once your findings are ready. For example, how you will receive them, whether any follow-up is recommended, and what you should do if something needs further attention.
Sometimes the next step may be advice to speak to your GP or another healthcare professional. Understanding the possible next steps before you book helps you plan and avoids surprises. Results vary from person to person, and no single test can answer every health question.
What to expect on the day
Having blood taken is usually a quick procedure. A small sample is collected from a vein, most often in the arm. Some people notice minor bruising or tenderness where the needle was placed, which usually settles on its own. If you feel anxious about needles, or have felt faint during a blood test before, let the team know so they can help you feel more comfortable.
You may be given specific instructions before certain tests, such as whether to eat beforehand. Your practitioner will talk you through any preparation and aftercare that applies to you.
We love hearing from our community on social media, but please keep personal health information out of public comments. If you have a question about your own situation, contact the 65Beauty team privately and we will be happy to help.
Common questions
Can I just book any blood test?
We recommend speaking to our team first so we can understand what you would like to find out and talk you through the current options.
Will I get my results at the appointment?
This depends on the test. Ask about timing and how the findings will be explained when you speak to us.
Does the video show a real result?
No. The footage illustrates sample collection only. It does not show a result or a specific test panel.
Can I ask questions after I receive my findings?
Yes. Asking who will explain the findings before you book means you will know who to contact.
