Men's Health: When Did You Last See a GP? Private GP Appointments from Brentwood

Lads, be honest. When did you last see a GP? For a lot of men the answer is "not for years", and usually only when something is really wrong. In this article Paul, Clinical Director at 65Beauty, explains how private video and phone appointments with our GP, Dr Ayaz Tokhi, can make it easier to have that conversation without taking half a day off work.

Paul appears in real video filmed at our clinic; his voice in this video is AI-generated and lip-synced, made with his consent. The video shows our website's private GP and booking pages, alongside real clinic footage filmed with consent.

Why men put it off

There are plenty of reasons men avoid the GP. Work is busy, getting an appointment feels like a hassle, and there is often a sense that a niggle is not serious enough to bother anyone with. Some men simply do not like talking about their health. The trouble is that small problems are often easier to deal with when they are caught early, and peace of mind is worth a lot.

Meet Dr Ayaz Tokhi

Our private GP, Dr Ayaz Tokhi, is a GMC-registered GP with years of NHS experience. Appointments are 20 minutes, by video or phone, booked online at a time that suits you. At your appointment time, he calls you.

What you can talk about

As Paul says in the video, you can talk about anything. Some of the things men often bring up include:

  • Blood test results. If you have had a private blood test and want to understand what the numbers mean for you, the doctor can talk them through.
  • Sleep. Poor sleep, snoring or feeling exhausted despite a full night can all be worth discussing.
  • Weight. Whether you want general advice or have noticed changes you cannot explain, it is a sensible conversation to have.
  • That niggle you have been ignoring. An ache that will not shift, a change you have noticed, or something you have been meaning to ask about for months.

If anything needs a physical examination or further tests, the doctor will explain the next steps clearly.

No half day off work

One of the biggest barriers for working men is time. A 20-minute video or phone appointment means no travelling, no waiting room and no explaining to the boss why you need the morning off. You can book online in a couple of minutes and take the call from home, the car park or a quiet office.

It sits alongside your NHS GP

A private GP appointment does not replace your NHS GP. It sits alongside it. Staying registered with your NHS practice matters, because it holds your full medical record and looks after your long-term care. Prescriptions and referrals are always at the doctor's discretion, based on what is clinically right for you.

If you ever have serious symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing or signs of a stroke, do not wait for a booked appointment. Call 999. For urgent advice that is not an emergency, contact NHS 111.
